Home Videos Trapped on VHS

Denim, neon, Furbies – the ’90s were a good time! Your family vacation to Yellowstone is probably on the same VHS tape as the Titanic you tried to record. No one knows what happened to the VCR and now you’re left with stacks of unwatchable VHS tapes. What should you do with them?

Like all film, the magnetic tape inside your VHS will degrade over time. Some estimates project that you’ll see significant loss of picture quality within 10 – 25 years. At this point, your VHS tapes are likely older than that projected life expectancy. Let’s get those transferred before it’s too late!

How we can Help

Starting at $15/tape, we will:

  • Inspect them to ensure there’s no dust, dirt, mold, or broken tape. Broken tapes cost an additional $15 to fix; moldy tapes are $25 to clean.
  • Convert them to digital files (MP4). If you’d like any of your footage edited, to remove recordings of TV shows or to segment family events into individual files, we can do that for a $50 per tape add-on. Having footage divided into events has become a popular service with our clients. Doing so enables families to quickly find what they’re looking for without having to scroll through hours of footage that can often span multiple years.
  • Upload your videos to our secure business cloud.
  • Provide you with a link to view, download, and share your videos. If you’d like to be able to stream your home videos from any device, we can start a Projector account for you and upload everything we converted to that platform. Projector accounts with unlimited storage are $29.95 per year.
