How We Started

In the summer of 2020, Joseph Horner kicked off a project to get to know his mother better, who passed away when he was a young teenager. After starting a family of his own, he wanted his girls to be inspired and strengthened by the remarkable life she led. The experiences that followed sparked a desire to help other families stay connected with their loved ones. Nembur was born to make memories accessible and fun for kids to relive.

In 2023, after operating Nembur out of their home for 2.5 years as a side business, Joseph and his wife Brinlee opened up a commercial storefront in the newly renovated Federal Building at 160 N Main in Logan, Utah. As part of the grand opening, they wanted to do something fun and historic with the community. Joseph pitched the idea of attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the most people dunking cookies to USU Athletics. He thought that’s a record that Cache Valley should own, since it is home to renowned cookie (Crumbl) and milk (Gossner Foods) brands. USU Athletics liked the idea! Nembur was the primary sponsor behind the event that took place on February 17th during the USU Gymnastics meet. Unfortunately, they fell a few hundred people short of the record currently held by the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.

They may have been bested by Girl Scouts (who knew they’d be so tough to beat!) but the night was a success in Joseph’s book. They had accomplished what they set out to do: spread awareness of Nembur’s mission, bring in more fans for USU Gymnastics, and create a fun night for Cache Valley families. Joseph doesn’t regret the resources they invested in the world record attempt. When you really believe in something, you’ve got to swing for the fences (and get back up when you lose to Girl Scouts 😊)!
